The Suffolk Walking Festival 2017

8th May 2017

The Suffolk Walking Festival is back! This year’s events take place from the 13th May – 4th June and is the 10th anniversary of the festival. The Suffolk Walking Festival gives you the perfect opportunity to explore the wonderful and diverse Suffolk countryside.

This year there is a bigger and better programme than ever before. The event offers over 100 different themed and led walks, ranging in distance from 1 mile to 60, so whether you are new to walking, looking for a fun day out or looking to challenge yourself there will be something for everyone.

If you are looking for a real test then you should consider the Classic and Mega Challenge, a popular choice from last year. This offers you the opportunity to explore the Stour Valley; a 63-mile route crossing the Suffolk countryside and dipping into Essex. You can choose to complete this route over 4 days or if you really want to push your limits then why not try completing it in 30 hours! If this is not your thing, don’t worry, there is plenty of fabulous shorter walks on offer as well.

There is a selection of walks perfect for families around the half term period such as the golden mile walks between parks and museums in Lowestoft and activity routes in Ipswich and Sudbury and even a trail or two at Jimmy's Farm.

We are sure that they will be a great day out for all the family, some of the walks are perfect even for your four-legged family members.

We recommend trying the Westleton Heath spring walk which will be taking place on Thursday 18th May, starting at 10am. This walk will give you the opportunity to stroll around the heath and listen out for the extraordinary call of the Nightjar. The walk will last around 2 hours finishing in enough time to give you the chance to pop into The Westleton Crown for a delicious lunch, refreshing drink and a well-deserved rest.
